Philip Owens, ADCRG and Terry Gillan, ADCRG, are two accomplished dancers and world renowned Irish Dance instructors who founded Gilleoghan Irish Dance in June 2011. Their successes include many All Ireland, North American, Great Britain and World Champions. After two extremely successful careers, they have announced their retirement from teaching. All of us at Gilleoghan Irish Dance thank them from the bottom of our hearts for their love, inspiration, dedication, support and passion they have brought into all of our lives. It is with great fondness that we bid them both our heartfelt wishes for a healthy and happy retirement.
Catie Thorne, TCRG, started her Irish dancing career in Danbury, CT at the age of five.
In the late 1990's she was introduced to the teaching talents of Philip Owens and Terry Gillian and from there the rest is history.
She placed in the top 10 in all 10 New England Regional Championships, placing as high as 2nd, qualifying for the worlds 5 times.
She competed in many North American, All-Ireland and World Championships for solos as well as teams.
Under the training of Philip and Terry, she earned her TCRG in 2011 on the first attempt.
Catie is a 2010 graduate of the University of Connecticut with a degree in Geoscience and is currently working full time in Danbury. Catie is excited to join Terry and Philip and the entire Gilleoghan family and looks forward to sharing her love of Irish culture and dance throughout the world.
Matt Mulvey, TCRG, attended his first dancing class at the age of ten in Newtown, CT. Quickly realising his love for Irish dancing, he was then introduced to Philip Owens and Terry Gillan to help make his dancing dreams into a reality.
After consistantly placing in the top five in solos and teams at the New England Oireachtas, Matt was able to achieve his dream of winning the Oireachtas in 2009 (Mens 18-20 Champion) and 2011 (Senior Mens Champion). On a national and international level, Matt has competed in numerous All-Ireland, World, and National championships. Matt was able to retire in 2013 having danced on a Senior Mixed team with a National title and world medal placement of 6th, as well as recalling 27th at the 2013 World Championships and placing 12th at the 2013 National Championships.
Working alongside Terry, Philip and Catie as a Senior Teaching Assistant has been an amazing experience for Matt. Learning the necessary knowledge and skills from his mentors, as well as a proper balance of passion and discipline for dancing, Matt successfully passed his TCRG exam in the Fall of 2013.
Matt graduated from Western Connecticut State University in December 2014 with a Bachelors of Science in Health Promotion and Exercise Science. While studying at WCSU he had the pleasure of choreographing the Fall 2013 production of "Two Nights Near Doolin". Aside from teaching, Matt currently works as a Patient Liaison in the Emergency Department at Danbury Hospital.
